I've Been Up To Some Schtuff

O.M.G. if I told you all the things I accomplished today you guys would pass out from sheer exhaustion just from reading about it! I LOVE when I wake up in the mood to get crackin'! Things were tossed without even thinking twice, I whipped through rooms like a cleaning tornado and I even had time to bake some bread (which I pretty much ate half of...homemade bread is so dang good).

I even got the girls to bed an hour early.

Holy Crapoly!

Like I said in my previous post, April is time for getting back on track and getting into that warm weather mentality of finishing errands/chores/tasks early and spending the rest of the day outside playing. We did spend some time outside and it was marvelous. The weather was perfect. We got out the sidewalk chalk and played hopscotch and drew pictures. It was pretty clear that my big girl is, well, getting bigger! She drew a few pictures that actually looked like what she said they were and she had no problem telling me which numbers went where when I was setting up hopscotch (which is perfect for teaching numbers btw) I absolutely love warm weather!

It's a "lady ghost"

A few other things I've been up to, going through some of our older art projects and putting them on the Dilly-Dali Art blog and working on some curriculum for next week! I was planning on going to the library tomorrow but thanks to the awesomeness of Facebook I saw that they are closed tomorrow! ARGH!

Only One Word Can Describe My Weekend...

PUKE.
Lexi passed out on my back
Gross I know, but that's exactly how this weekend and the beginning of this week went down. We did have one good day...Sunday. I have a Pancake Sunday post for you guys AND a post about a DC trip but I am completely exhausted right now, I just wanted to let all you lurkers know that I am alive and I know I've been slacking on my blogger duties. I'm trying to find the balance, I've let myself fall off my consistent track but NO MORE! April brings a new month, a fresh start! Spring is in the air! Time to stop being mopey winter lazy and start being bouncy springy energetic...as soon as I'm done with feeling like somebody is stabbing me in the stomach...

DC Cherry Blossom Festival

We made a trip up to DC to see the cherry blossoms in full bloom. They were at their peak the weekend we went. It was a magnificent sight to see all the cherry trees in bloom around the tidal basin. I was a bit surprised there weren't more pink ones, all the blooms seemed white. My mom said that they were more pink the weekend before. HMPF!

I wanted to see pink ones!

Oh well, they were beautiful nonetheless and I think I was able to capture some beautiful pictures. We had a great time, that is, until the evil bug put us on our asses for the next few days!

Me and my sweet girls!

Pancake Sunday 4.3

Cinnamon Roll Pancakes
with
Cream Cheese Glaze
Lexi watching Charlie eat his breakfast

Huge pancakes

First attempt, hole in bag was cut funky

Next attempt, hole was cut fine just too big!

A sticky sticky mess

Another sticky sticky mess

Finished product

A pile of sticky sticky pancakes

Lexi only ate a few bites

Charlotte only ate a few bites...

...but she enjoyed them
So my Pancake Sunday posts seem to be getting fairly popular, my friend Danielle over at Mama Dani's Musings has started her own Weekend Waffles inspired by Pancake Sunday and people are starting to send me recipes to new pancakes (which I really like getting btw...) So this Sunday we decided to try a recipe for Cinnamon Roll Pancakes that was sent to me (here's the recipe)

Here's how they were...

They were delicious if you like things that are sickly sweet. I could only eat half of one, the girls could only eat a few bites each.
My Pancake Sunday guests and I all came to a unanimous decision that they were good but the work effort to taste ratio was bad. They were very messy! I don't know what we did wrong but they didn't turn out looking at all like the pictures in the recipe!
I'm thinking that the hole we cut into the bag for the filling was too big so their was too much cinnamon roll filling in the pancakes. The spatula had a sticky mess all over it making it extremely hard to flip the pancakes, I couldn't get the spatula under the pancakes enough to flip them so they ended up getting burnt tips (which only added to the flavor I think) and when I did finally flip them they always flung hot  bubbling cinnamon filling everywhere. EEK! The cinnamon filling was getting stuck to the griddle and burning before I could pour more batter making even more of a mess!
Overall I will not be making these pancakes again, the taste wasn't enough to make me want to try tweaking the recipe to see if it would be better. I just think they were way too rich and sweet and messy!
Real cinnamon rolls are where it's at.
